Zoetis Advances Diagnostics with VitalRADS Integration and Q2 Momentum

Tue, September 01, 2026

Zoetis has completed its acquisition of VitalRADS, a veterinary teleradiology services platform, marking a strategic expansion of its Global Diagnostics portfolio. The deal, announced on July 14 and finalized in July, brings 24/7 access to board-certified veterinary specialists through cloud-based imaging workflows, enhancing Zoetis’ evolution toward a full Virtual Reference Lab offering.

The acquisition builds on an earlier August 2025 partnership and adds specialist-led radiology services, AI-assisted reporting, mobile ultrasound, and cloud image storage to Zoetis’ existing diagnostics technologies. VitalRADS’ draft report generation and quality‐assurance capabilities align with the company’s Vetscan Imagyst® and Vetscan OptiCell™ platforms. The integration underscores Zoetis’ strategy to expand beyond in‑vitro testing into advanced, end‑to‑end imaging diagnostics.

This clinical innovation was highlighted in Zoetis’ Q2 2026 earnings discussion, where it noted a 12% year‑over‑year revenue increase in companion animal diagnostics. The company specifically cited enhancements to the Vetscan OptiCell platform, aiming to strengthen its point‑of‑care diagnostic offerings. Notably, the diagnostics segment provided balance amid softer companion animal product demand.

The Q2 results revealed revenue of $2.5 billion — flat year‑over‑year on a reported basis and down 1% on an organic operational basis — with adjusted net income of $781 million, or $1.87 per share. The company reaffirmed its focus on innovation, pointing to holding more than a dozen potential blockbuster candidates in development. Full-year guidance was updated to reflect expectations of $9.12 billion to $9.32 billion in revenue, and adjusted diluted EPS in the range of $6.15 to $6.25.

Zoetis shares (NYSE: ZTS) traded at approximately $77.10 at the close of August 31, reflecting a modest daily gain of 0.13%. This underscores the market’s steady response to the diagnostics-focused strategic milestones, rather than signaling a reactive move to short‑term developments.

Why It Matters

The VitalRADS acquisition reinforces Zoetis’ commitment to diagnostic leadership and aligns with increasing demand for high-quality, AI-powered imaging capabilities in veterinary care. With companion animal diagnostics showing strong growth, and the addition of VitalRADS, Zoetis is better positioned to deliver integrated solutions that enhance clinical workflows and value creation.

Looking ahead, continued performance of the diagnostics segment, successful integration of VitalRADS, and progression of the Vetscan pipeline—including the expected year‑end validation of its OmniMax multimodal chemistry platform—will be key to assessing the full impact of these initiatives.
