Thermo Fisher Secures FDA Clearances for EXENT and EliA CTD 13 in Diagnostic Expansion
Sat, August 29, 2026Thermo Fisher Scientific announced this week that it obtained U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearances for two of its diagnostic solutions: the EXENT® System for multiple myeloma monitoring and the EliA™ CTD 13 Screen for systemic connective tissue disease testing. Both products were showcased during the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) Conference held July 26‑30, 2026, in Anaheim, California.
The EXENT System is a fully integrated, automated mass spectrometry platform designed to aid in the diagnosis of multiple myeloma and related disorders. The FDA clearance enables clinical laboratories to offer more sensitive, efficient testing workflows that support faster and more confident diagnoses.
The EliA CTD 13 Screen is intended for use on the Phadia 250 instrument and supports testing for a range of systemic autoimmune connective tissue diseases—including systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren’s syndrome, systemic sclerosis, polymyositis, dermatomyositis and mixed connective tissue disease—when used alongside other laboratory and clinical findings.
These clearances were formally highlighted by Thermo Fisher during its ADLM 2026 presence, where the company emphasized its role as an end-to-end partner across diagnostic workflows—from research to clinical decision-making. At the ADLM event, Thermo Fisher also presented tools such as LabLink360™ QC software and MAS™ Max quality controls, aiming to integrate quality management with operational efficiency.
The clearances reinforce Thermo Fisher’s strategic focus on expanding its specialty diagnostics portfolio in high-impact clinical areas including oncology, autoimmune disease, maternal health and infectious disease. The company’s ability to bring new, cleared products to market helps strengthen its value proposition to clinical laboratories facing growing pressure for accuracy, speed and automation.
This development arrives amid a broader recovery in life sciences equities. While Thermo Fisher trades at $622.18—reflecting a 0.7% decline as of August 28, 2026—it remains well-positioned as diagnostic innovation ramps up across healthcare systems.
Looking ahead, Thermo Fisher may leverage these new clearances to drive adoption in specialty lab segments and support long-term growth in diagnostic instrumentation and assays. Investors and industry observers will likely monitor the commercial rollout, uptake among laboratories, and potential impact on segment revenues in upcoming financial updates.
