Philip Morris International Delivers Record Q3 Results and Raises Full-Year Adjusted EPS Guidance
Fri, October 23, 2026Philip Morris International (NYSE: PM) reported third-quarter 2026 results on October 21, marking a record-breaking performance in net revenue, gross profit, and operating income for the company.
Q3 Performance Highlights
Reported diluted earnings per share (EPS) declined 4.9% year-over-year to $2.12. In contrast, adjusted diluted EPS rose 5.4% to $2.36, or 5.8% excluding currency effects. These figures were announced in a press release and the company’s Form 8‑K filing on October 21, 2026.
Total third-quarter net revenue increased 5.5% (7.1% organically) to $11.4 billion, driven by gains in both smoke-free products and traditional combustibles. Smoke-free accounted for over 40% of net revenues in the quarter and roughly 42% year-to-date, with offerings now available in 110 markets worldwide. Organic growth in gross profit and operating income stood at 8.3% and 10.5%, respectively.
In the U.S., strong momentum continued with net revenues up 22.7%, fueled by a 4.2% increase in ZYN nicotine pouch shipments and margin gains from pricing and wellness products.
Full-Year Guidance Update
Philip Morris updated its full-year 2026 adjusted diluted EPS forecast to a reported range of $7.11 to $7.26. This outlook reflects a projected 9.9% to 11.9% increase versus 2025, aided by a favorable currency impact. Excluding currency, the adjusted EPS growth is anticipated to be 7.5% to 9.5%, compared to the prior adjusted figure of $7.54 in 2025.
The revised guidance includes:
- High single-digit growth in smoke-free product shipments, accompanied by at least midrange net revenue growth of 5% to 7% (organic).
- Organic operating income growth of 7% to 9%, though potentially weighted toward the lower half due to inflationary and geopolitical cost pressures.
- Expected operating cash flow near $13.5 billion, capital expenditures of $1.4 to $1.6 billion, and a targeted net debt to EBITDA ratio close to 2.0x by year-end.
- No share repurchases are planned for the year.
Strategic Momentum and Balance
The results highlight Philip Morris’s dual engines of growth: resilience in traditional combustible markets and rapid expansion of smoke-free products, particularly ZYN in the U.S. and HTUs in select international markets. Achieving record financial highs reinforces the strategic pivot toward smoke-free offerings without abandoning combustible strength.
Looking Ahead
Investors will now turn their attention to the full-year earnings trajectory, especially whether Q4 sustains strong smoke-free momentum and supports the guided EPS range. Observers will also be watching cost pressures, particularly from geopolitical challenges and inflation, to gauge margins and cash flow performance into 2027.
Note: As of October 23, 2026, Philip Morris (PM) shares were trading at $199.47, down 0.39%.
