MGM Resorts Posts Q3 Results Showing Digital & China Strength Amid Broader Headwinds

MGM Resorts International reported its third-quarter 2026 financial results for the period ending September 30, 2026, highlighting a mixed operational performance amid continuing macroeconomic challenges.

On October 28, MGM outlined that while lower room rates weighed on overall performance, its diversified business mix delivered notable strength. MGM China delivered record quarterly revenue and achieved a record market share of 17.1%. At the same time, digital operations—including the BetMGM North America venture and MGM Digital—contributed significantly. BetMGM’s distributions and branding license fees alone accounted for $34 million in the quarter. The company emphasized that its trailing twelve-month Las Vegas Strip Adjusted EBITDAR has grown nearly 70% since 2019. These figures attest to resilience in regional operations and growing international and digital platforms. Finally, regional operations saw a 1% same-store revenue increase.

Despite these bright spots, MGM acknowledged headwinds in leisure demand and room pricing. In North America, occupancy held steady but at lower rates amid high jet fuel prices and airline fares to Las Vegas, which surged approximately 45% compared to Q3 2025. These pressures, coupled with shortened booking windows and a lighter event calendar at the end of the quarter, led to flat occupancy with softer room yields. EBITDA margins were impacted by this shift in mix, even as casino revenues showed improvement.

Looking ahead, MGM executives signaled confidence in a rebound driven by a robust event schedule and convention demand. October saw strong bounceback in group and convention bookings, and Las Vegas hosted three NFL games along with increased table games activity. The remainder of Q4 and early 2027 are bolstered by marquee events including the Players Era Men’s Championship, the National Finals Rodeo, the Las Vegas Bowl, another Formula 1 race week, followed by the NCAA Football Playoff National Championship and Women’s Basketball Sweet 16. These events are expected to support revenues from both rooms and gaming.

From a balance sheet perspective, MGM remains well-positioned. It faces only one domestic debt maturity—$675 million in senior notes—over the next 12 months, and its revolving credit facility remains undrawn. This liquidity buffer gives MGM strategic flexibility amid the current rate environment.

Meanwhile, recent insights into institutional activity reveal further context. A Schedule 13D/A amendment filed on October 28 detailed revised voting conditions between MGM and its largest shareholder, People Incorporated. This modifies the governance framework for a significant 26.5% stake held by People Inc., following its withdrawal of a proposed $18 billion takeover earlier in the year.

In summary, MGM Resorts’ Q3 results highlight growing strength in its diversified operations—especially digital and international—while pressure on room rates and leisure demand persists. With a packed event calendar ahead and financial flexibility intact, the company sees the foundations of a meaningful rebound in the coming months.
